Cells For Kids

Do you want to teach your children about cells from an early age? If yes, then here's a book you will like. It's called "Cells for Kids". It's a simple book that talks about the various types of cells, cell division, what the cell is all about, what they are etc. This is an excellent primer for your kids to get to know about these building blocks of all living things -the cell.

Cells For Kids (Science Book For Children)

Cells are the building blocks of all living things. They are called “cells” because Robert Hooke, the person who discovered the cells when looking under the microscope thought that it looked like the “empty rooms” of a monastery where monks used to sleep in.

File Formatting Tips

Use the source document for your content whenever possible. For instance, if your PDF was created from a Microsoft Word document, use the original Word file instead of the PDF. If your document was created with another publishing tool, try using the "Save as" or "Export" feature to export as HTML or Microsoft Word.

If your source file is a Microsoft Word document:

The initial formatting you've chosen in Word may be altered slightly to conform to Kindle device specifications. For optimum readability on the Kindle device, it is best to save your Word (.doc) file as "Web Page - filtered" or "HTML - filtered." Don't upload your content with Track Changes on.

Psychopaths in Our Lives: My Interviews

Psychopaths in Our Lives contains actual interviews with three “normal’ psychopaths. We think of serial killers when we hear the word psychopath, but the vast majority are not in prison, but walking among us. Lacking a conscience, they leave a path of destruction and despair as they pass through.

You will read in their own words how they approach relationships, how they manipulate their partners, and what they think about themselves and others. Which one is your psychopath? The lover who broke your heart? The friend who stole your husband? The neighbor who poisoned your dog? The arrogant boss that flaunts his power? Read their words; hear the narcissism and callous indifference. Be prepared before you allow a psychopath to destroy your life.

All authors should have a professional blog

I see many authors relying on the free WordPress.com and Blogger blogs to promote their blog. There is no denying that blogs is a great way to show case your work. You can see some of my books listed on this website. But what you must be doing is building a blog on your own domain name like this one here

There is no better way to look more professional and build an audience. There are more chances of people buying books if they land on your site and discover a professional looking blog. Would you buy a book from this site or this one. Both of them are my own. I use the main one to promote the books that I have written in the form of blog posts and I use the free ones to build back links to the book as seen here. Both the blogs does the trick but a professional looking blog gives you that extra punch.

What do you need for a professional looking blog? First you need a domain name and then hosting. I suggest you use BlueHost which you can use. It takes about 10 minutes or less create a blog if you use BlueHost. They not only provide you will a free domain name, you can control all aspects of your domain from their control panel.

Here are the steps you need to create a blog:

1. Head over to BlueHost and click on the “sign up now” button find your domain name.

2. Once you have found your desired domain name then fill up all your details.

3. Find the most appropriate package. The best one to go for is the $6.95 monthly plan. You have to pay yearly though.

4. Once you have signed up, you will be given all the details for your domain name and your hosting. You will be then be taken to your control panel.

5. Click on Fanstastico or where it says WordPress where you can upload WordPress where is says install.

6. Choose a user name and password for your WordPress blog and you are ready to go.

It does sound intimidating but trust me; there is no substitute to a professional blog.

Book Promotion: Using Video Tips to Promote Your Book

How to promote your books? This is a million dollar question. Here's an interesting video by Julie Issac on how to promote your books using videos. Videos are great ways to promote your books. Basically she is saying that you should write your top 20 tips, the best tips that you know, and use it everyday.  The second is about keywords! Write down your keywords that you can use to write blog posts. If you are a blogger and an internet marketer than you will know the importance of keywords in blogging. This video is about 2 years old but she knows what she's talking about and is still relevant today. Watch the video below to find out on how to promote your books using videos.

How to remove the page number from the first page

If you are creating a document then a page number on the first page does not look right. In fact, your first page is going to be the page just after the cover and most likely it is going to have the name of book. So you don't want it to show on the first page. But the question is how do you remove it? Here's a step by step by guide.

1. Go to your page layout tab.
2. Then choose the page set up option
3. Once the dialogue box is open then choose the layout option.
4. Then check the different first page.
4. Press OK.
That's all, simple as that.

How to remove the page number from the first page
Here's a great video explaining on how to get rid of the number from the first page of your document.

5 things you must do when your new book is out

how to promote your book

If you are self publishing your book then you have to do the promotions yourself. Basically you are the author and marketer all rolled into one.

As soon as your book is published, you must do these 5 things:

1. Post it on Facebook

This will let your friends and followers know that your new ebook/book is out. You should also join several book promotion Facebook group including this one.

2. Post in on Twitter

If you have been using Twitter then you must tweet about your new book. Don’t forget to add a hastag (#). You can use hastags like #book, #fantasy etc whichever is appropriate for your book.

3. Post it LinkedIn

Everyone I know has a linkedIn account. Make sure you post the URL of the book with a few lines of description.

4. Post it in Pinterest

Take a look at my books Pinterest board I created to post books from this website. So far it has 129 followers, not a lot but hopefully it will grow in size.

5. Post it on Google+

This is a very powerful social media tool and its growing in size so don’t ignore it. You can now use hashtags just like Twitter and Facebook so use.

Take a look at the image above. Amazon provides social media buttons you need for you to promote you book, all you need is to click them. Except for the Pinterest button, I suggest you click on them every week.

So once you have submitted your book for publication and waiting anxiously for the email that says, “Congratulations, your book is now available on the Amazon market place”, write a blog post to publish on your website. So that once it is published, you know what to do.

For more ways to promote your books, read here.

Do a press release for every book launch

Press release is a great way to get the word out for your new book. I suggest that every book you publish, you must do at least one press release. There are many press release sites that you can choose from. The one that I regularly use is prlog.org which is free to use. They are one of the best ones. However with prlog.org, you will need to register using a proper email address and not a free one such as gmail, hotmail or yahoo email. You will need to buy a proper email address or a domain name and set up a custom email address.

What press releases do is, distribute your news to other sites including Google News, Yahoo and Bing. But do remember, there is no guarantee that it will actually get you more sales just a bit of extra exposure.

In addition to a press release for you book, another thing you can do is send me a synopsis of your book just like Elle did with her new book. After I published that post, I tweeted and shared it on my various social media sites. The idea is simple, get the word out to as much eye-balls as you can.

So here's a press release I did for my latest book. They also give you a PDF format of the press release which you can further distribute.
I have been doing press releases for product launches be it websites, books and services. I have realised that there is more to press releases that just writing what the book is about. There are many things to consider such as wordings, catchy titles, headings that work best for the search engines, keywords, categories, images, paragraph structure and so on.

If you need help getting a press release for your book launch then you can look at some of my book promotion services. Just feel free to get in touch. Here's more of my services. Just send me an email and I can get you sorted out on your next press release.

Bookmark this site now and I will be listing a set of sites that do free press releases. I will also be publishing tips on how to get the most of these releases.

Interview with John Reinhard Dizon

What languages you can speak and write?
Superlative English, street-level Spanish, cave-dweller German.
How many books have you written?
Five through Publish America from 2003-2010 and ten in 2013-14. It was a very good year.
Can you list some of your books here?
Where do you publish your books?
The Standard and Destroyer were published by Tenth Street Press. The Fury was Netherworld Press. Stxeamtown was with Torquere/Prizm. Nightcrawler was Black Rose Writing. Tiara and The Bat came out on my own label, Spoiler Publishing Co.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced when writing your book? How did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge comes after the fact, getting the publishers to realize the mutual benefit of promoting the book and selling the rights. It was why I decided to start self-publishing if I was going to do all the work.
How do you promote your books?
I blog and post promos like all the thousands of other writers out there. All I can hope for is that the quality of my JRD brand is the cream of the crop and rises to the top.
What is your favorite genre and why?
I specialize in action/adventure as it matches my personality and lifestyle. I do historical fiction because I like my work to be as authentic as possible. I also favor postmodernist women's fiction in order to make statements and influence readers' thinking.
When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?
I started writing dialogue for my stick-figure cartoons after I got out of diapers. I feel my mission in life is to create the kind of art that causes people to reflect on different concepts and world views. I also try to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ who makes it all possible.
Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?
My latest work, The Brand (coming soon on Amazon), is about a Northern Irishman in 1777 branded (with a branding iron) as a Sower of Sedition for distributing political literature. He seeks revenge against the British by participating in a sting operation in ripping off a shipment of gold bullion being used to build a superfortress in the American Colonies. Freedom of speech is a major theme, and there are some strong female protagonists that voice the female perspective.
Are you working on more books?
While I'm waiting on my family saga, Generations, to be published by Solstice Publishing, I'm planning Generations II. The first one is about my maternal grandfather's Irish ancestry. This one's looking at my Dad's side of the family.
What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?
First and foremost is the storyline. Without a great story there's no point in writing. You then need great characters to make the story come to life. Research is a main ingredient, because if your facts are wrong your story falls apart. Finally, you need a strong finish or you're cheating yourself and your readers.
What is the hardest part of the book writing process?
It's a tossup between research and the finish. With The Standard, there were days I spent more time researching than writing. The Brand was all about the finish, making the sting operation believable in a day and age when smoke and mirrors were in short supply.

Author interview with Elle Klass

What languages you can speak and write?

I only speak, read, and write American English. I did take Spanish in college but my capabilities in that language are limited.

How many books have you written?

I have written several books including those that aren't published. My stories range in genre's, currently the NaNoWriMo 2013 winning novel, a horror/ paranormal thriller, Eye of The Storm Eilida's Tragedy is available for reading, and votes at jukepopserials.com.  In this story Eilida has a tragic accident while Sunshine is the epitome of perfect. The story takes both women spiraling on a jolting ride and horrific climax. The prologue is available now and a new chapter will be added each week. I invite everyone to read, laugh, and brace yourself for the unexpected. The vote button is under each chapter.

Can you list some of your books here?

Definitely, As Snow Falls is a memoir. The story encompasses a women's entire life outlining her most memorable moments such as her first love, marriage, and the mystery she unravels.I published this story after losing a close friend, although was written several years prior to meeting him. Through my loss it seemed the most appropriate to publish first. Baby Girl is a series in short stories. Cleo forges a life for herself after her only parent, mom, disappears when she is 12.  I would have to classify this story as a coming of age adventure. Cleo encounters occurrences which may bring tears to the reader's eyes, however her story should also enlist some laughter with the unusual situations she gets herself into. Her cleverness, resourcefulness, and naivete make it fun for me to slip into her character.

Where do you publish your books?

All my stories are self- published through create space, kindle, or smashwords. As Snow Falls can found on through all three.

If you are using KDP and CreateSpace, did you try traditional publishing?

I have sent in queries to literary agents and publishers. I even had an offer and contract sent to me, but wasn't impressed so I kindly turned the publisher down and published on my own. I like the freedom of setting my own deadlines, creating my own covers, and playing with my own website. The literary world has changed, most new authors going the traditional route still spend countless hours self promoting. Let's not forget publishers want a well polished edited script sent to them. If I have to fork out the expense of editing, and marketing why would I go with a traditional publisher?

What is the biggest challenge you have faced when writing your book? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was finding an editor. I found one, Terri Klaes Harper, who I'm working with for my  Baby Girl series and she is awesome! Not only does she have a BA in English but she also spent several years teaching high school honors English and is fantastic. She edits and leaves commentary that sends me into fits of laughter. She is the author of indie book Memoirs of an Ordinary Girl: The Middle-ish Ages, a hysterical young adult fiction novel.

How do you promote your books?

I promote my books by completing blog interviews, swapping reviews with other various authors, and the usual social media. I can be found almost everywhere, although my faves are Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Recently, I set up a giveaway for five free autographed As Snow Falls paperbacks, through goodreads ending on February 14th. I made it world wide so as not to leave anyone out of the loop. I have an author website and a blog, thetroubledoyster.blogspot- information on my books can be found at either site. Recently, I started working with a marketing co-op. They have set up a website as well at Whitehall Publishing- Meet our Favorite Authors. There are seven of us so please take a moment and check out all our pages and novels.

What is your favorite genre and why?

I have a lot of favorites genre's. It may be easier to say the ones I don't like- true crime. Now I say I don't like it only because true crime tends to be dry. If the story is written more as a fiction than I'm intrigued.

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?

I started writing very young, mostly poetry. My goal was always to write novels but at age 12 setting up a novel seemed an enormous feat. Several years ago now I wrote my first novel As Snow Falls, going through several revisions during that time.

Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?

I hope an excerpt is OK. I have had more compliments on these few lines from As Snow Falls. He took me into the backyard, and I jumped on the swing. He jumped on with me and we twisted and twirled until we both fell off laughing, with our heads spinning. After a few minutes he stood up, grabbed my hand, and pulled me up. Next, he grabbed my other hand, walked me up against the tree, raised our hands above our heads, and he kissed me, openmouthed. It was an incredible feeling and I found myself kissing him back. My body felt like it was being lifted off the ground. Then reality hit me on the head like a brick, and I dropped back down to earth. What was I doing kissing this boy I didn't really know? What kind of a person did he think I was?

I will add this novel has made many reader's cry from tears of sadness and joy. Are you working on more books?

Currently, the second short story in my Baby Girl series is being edited, and will be available shortly. I have no exact date yet. I am also working on edits for Eye of The Storm as I publish each chapter. I hope to have it completed by November  when I write the prequel Calm Before the Storm for NaNoWriMo 2014. 2015 I plan on publishing my novel Just Another Day, a crazy story about Joan a high school biology teacher and her students. The day takes them on a hilarious and wild ride. This story is closest to me as I have spent over a decade teaching Junior High science. The characters are fictional but derived from combinations between students, parents, and professionals I have worked with.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?

First, the story swirls around in my head for a while as my mind puts together the plot and characters. Next, I write a rough draft bringing my characters to life on the computer screen. After, I wait several months or even years and go back to the story. As I read it I revise. When I have finished that step I reread again, revising a little more. When I'm content with it, I send it on to be edited and start creating my cover.

What is the hardest part of the book writing process?

The most difficult part is the constant editing and revising. The first and second revisions are fun as I haven't looked at the story in such a long time therefore reacquainting myself with the characters while thickening the plot is enjoyable. Once I get to third revisions, the minuscule stuff, I would rather start creating a new story. I lack patience, although I'm always proud of the final product, and the journey it took to get there.

Author interview with P.S. Winn

Here’s an interview of P.S. Winn. You can find her books on her author profile here.

What languages you can speak and write?

I read and write English. I tried to learn French many years ago, but have forgotten most of the little I learned.

How many books have you written?

I have written eight books.

Can you list some of your books here?

Foretold, Voices. Obligations. Tunnels, Capernicious,BA-47,Stretched Stories and Heartfelts.

If you are using KDP and CreateSpace, did you try traditional publishing?

I use Create Space and KDP and have never tried any other type of publishing.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced when writing your book? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge when writing was to even try it at all. Most of my stories were in boxes in my closet. A friend and some members of my family pushed me into trying to publish and I haven’t stopped since late 2012 when it all began.

How do you promote your books?

Promotion is also knew for me and mostly I use twitter and Facebook to get my books out where people can find them.

What is your favorite genre and why?

My favorite genre is hard to say because I love to read almost everything and I feel when writing I throw in a little bit of everything also. Usually listing my books under supernatural suspense.

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?

I don’t know when I started writing. I know as I child I always made up stories and drew pictures to go along with them. I began writing to actually publish in 2012.

Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?

My books published are:
Foretold – a group of people are drawn together when the last days predicted for centuries begins happening. This group has to deal with not only mother nature’s wrath but the evil in people.
Voices – A serial killer is killing the dawn and out in a small town. Voices in the serial killer’s head have to be silenced. A small town sheriff is the one to try while also dealing with his own problems.
Obligations – A near death experience takes a young man to another place and then he is sent back to deal with something evil that followed him through. He is given a new special friend to help along with a new girlfriend.
Tunnels – Tunnels is a supernatural thriller with a touch of sci-fi when a wormhole like tunnel is opened for travels to other world’s and alternate realities.
Capernicious – An academy is the setting for this novel that has mystery, suspense and murder. Someone in the Academy is doing some strange experiments and people are dying. It takes a young woman and her best friend to lead the investigation and try to stop what is going on.
BA-47 – A supposed accidental explosion at what was thought to be a bio-fuel plant has killed half the workers and put the rest of a subdivision in danger, but the real cause behind the happening is more than it seems.
Stretched Stories – My first children’s novel is a collection of tall tales that tell humorous and stretched explanations for questions asked by kids and adults alike.
Heartfelts – A collection of short stories and poems that are more on the tender side. They are meant to tug your heart strings and maybe pull a tear or two while also giving an uplifting message. Are you working on more books?

Are you working on more books?

I am just beginning my newest novel that is going to be a suspense thriller with a bit of the supernatural, sci-fi and spiritual. All I can say is it starts with three friends taking a cruise.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?

When I am writing I try to keep my characters ones the reader feels like they know. I keep a list pf characters and what they look like. I get to know them myself as I write, they do have minds of their own. I try to make sure the story flows and keeps the reader interested. I also try to surprise the reader not only with the ending but a few places along the way. Lastly I try and follow my heart and instincts to know what the reader would enjoy in the story, and keep them mesmerized and wanting more.

What is the hardest part of the book writing process?

For me the hardest part of writing has to be promotion. The writing and the ideas always seem to be there. When I put pen to paper I begin and can’t stop. (I do write all my novels long hand). I am knew to all of this so the promoting is something I need to work on. Mostly I just want to share all I see in my mind with the readers out their and hopefully they can read my words and picture what I do. After all it is the reader’s imagination that adds a lot to the book they are reading.
